Overview
adultBasic, brought to you by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, provides basic health care coverage to eligible adults in 29 counties. adultBasic is funded through a portion of the state tobacco settlement money. The program offers low-cost
coverage to individuals 19 through 64 years of age with incomes that meet certain income guidelines (PDF).
adultBasic does not require any medical questionnaires. There is no pre-existing condition limit.
Due to the overwhelming response to enroll in the adultBasic program and the funding available, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department found it necessary to implement a waiting list. It is still important for individuals to apply for the program and if eligible, secure a place on the waiting list.
